How to know when enough is enough
It's taken us years to develop the skill of knowing when to stop. It's a common problem that anyone producing creative work, from music to design to art, has to grapple with. But it's a skill worth learning, especially if your income depends on it.
Before you start ask yourself 'What am I trying to achieve and how do I get there?'. Knowing your destination is really useful because it helps you run through all the stages you need to go through to get there. You can also give yourself soft deadlines that give you structure and a sense of urgency - this means you have fixed points where you reflect on the work and decide where to go next.
So, what have we learnt?
Don't be afraid of structure and give yourself targets along the way.
BUT - always factor in some time for experimentation, that's usually when the really good stuff happens.
